Programme 2024/25
The club meets at the Bradford Abbas village hall, starting at 7.30 and usually concluding by 9.30pm. Full location details and an interactive map can be found on our Contact page. AGM plus viewing of SBACC digital images for the Bradford Abbas Shield Members to have submitted their entries for consideration. 5 prints and 5 digital images will be selected from the entries at the next committee meeting. Images to be submitted no later than midnight on 6th September 2024. |

Members Evening - Theme is SUMMER Each member to share up to 3 digital images taken during the summer break, and present why they took them and what they like or dislike about them. Images to be submitted no later than midnight 20th September 2024. |

Our speaker this evening is Ian Bateman Ian will present a talk based on his Audio Visual Sequences. He is a member of the Royal Photographic Society, and achieved LRPS with slides in 1982, ARPS with slide/tape AV in 1992, and FRPS in AV in 2003. For more details visit www.ibateman.co.uk. |

Bradford Abbas Shield Competition Club competition between Sherborne Bradford Abbas, Wincanton, Yeovil, Shaftesbury, and, South Petherton Camera Clubs. Each club will submit 5 dpi’s and 5 prints. This years theme is – TREES, ONE OR MORE OR PARTS THEREOF. The competition will be judged by Rose Atkinson. Images to be submitted before midnight on 4th October 2024. |

Post-production Challenge Members are invited to take one of their out of camera images and post process it. This will give the member the opportunity to experiment and develop many avantgarde techniques perhaps turning the image into a drawing or cartoon, changing colours in light channels, creating a mono conversion, or perhaps even employing an Infrared technique. On the evening the before and after images will be shared, critiqued and the techniques used discussed. |

Seasonal Meeting/My Favourite Images of 2024 This year we will be inviting all members to submit two digital images that they consider to be their favourite image taken over the past year. This is not a competition but will be a celebration of the talent that exists within our club. The second half of the evening will be dedicated to a social gathering to celebrate the festive season. Images to be submitted no later than midnight on 4th December 2024. |

Shoot a Theme Competition Internal judging by members for the theme this year chosen by last year’s winner Chris Dowding. This years theme is Homes, or parts of homes constructed by man or the animal kingdom. Members should ensure when taking photographs of man-made homes that these are not or could not be construed as being intrusive to the owners or occupiers in anyway. When taking nature based images, the photographer should as far as possible ensure that no disturbance or distress is caused to the animal using the home. Each member can submit up to three Digital Projected Images, mono, or colour. Images to be submitted no later than midnight 10th January 2025. |

Critique Evening An evening critiquing members photographs, any subject is acceptable. Digital images only to be entered. The photographer should be able to discuss why they took the image. Each image will be critiqued by Alan Denison a WCPF judge. Images to be submitted no later than midnight 10th January 2025. |

5th Keith Lane Lecture This year’s 5th Keith Lane Lecture will be given by Jack Lodge. Jack is a professional landscape photographer from Wimborne, Dorset. Through his landscape photography he strives to capture the change of each season, documenting the ever changing landscape as the light and weather change. Peter Carter – Why Monochrome Peter Carter is a UK, Southwest based photographer with an interest in the diverse genres of environmental portraiture, performing arts, documentary and street photography. He studied photography at the University of Portsmouth, Bridgwater College, Somerset College of Arts and the University of the Creative Arts in London. His work has been exhibited in solo shows at the Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton and at Strode College as well as joint shows in venues across the Southwest and South Wales. His dance images have been published internationally. Peter is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and founder of the Somerset Monochrome Group of photographers. www.petercarterphoto.net |

Our First annual smartphone challenge - Three images taken over a week in March within walking distance of my home. This year we will be running an in-house smartphone challenge. This is an open challenge with members identifying their best image on the night. It has become clear that many members are routinely using smartphones to capture images, and with image quality improving all the time, now is a good time to introduce these tools into our photographic arsenal. Digital entries taken using smartphones only to be submitted. Digital processing is allowable, but not necessary. Images to be submitted no later than midnight 4th April 2025. |

This evenings speaker Rose Atkinson will do a presentation called – THE ART OF BLUR The Art of Blur (Intentional Camera Movement / ICM) "An introduction to the world of ICM and a voyage of discovery starting in the 1950s. I show how ICM can capture an essence of place, depict motion and emotion, create abstracts, and images with a sense of ambiguity and mystery. I explain how to set up your camera and different styles of ICM." |

Submitting Images
All competition, photoshoot and gallery images should be uploaded to your member's DropBox folder when requested, resized to 1920px x 1200px (72 dpi) and in the RGB colour space to suit the clubs projector.
